Earn While You Learn is a special program offered at the Salida Pregnancy Center. This program offers opportunities for learning and personal growth, while earning 'Baby Bucks' that can be used to purchase new and nearly new items from the 'Baby Botique'. You work one-on-one with a volunteer on the lessons you want and at the pace that suits your needs. Lessons range from 'what to expect when you're expecting', to parenting skills and personal and relationship growth.

Our 'Baby Botique' is stocked with maternity clothing, baby clothing and equipment, diapers, wipes, baby food, special gifts and much more.

'Baby Bucks' are earned by:

• enrolling in the program

• planning a curriculum

• doing lessons

• doing homework

• both parents coming for lessons

• children over 12 months staying with a sitter*

• donating time to the SPC

• participating in a local church or Bible study

• working on personal growtyh (GED, peer counseling, etc.)

  *Children require a lot of attention a lot of the time. In order to reduce distractions so that you can focus on the Earn While You Learn Program, we ask that you not bring your children (over 12 months) with you to the lessons.

Upon enrollment, a 'Get Acquainted Questionnaire' will be filled out by the client. The client and volunteer will then create a lesson plan that best suits the client's personal needs and interests. The lessons are then set-up and the learning and earning begins!

The lessons are done at the SPC with the volunteer. Some lessons available include: pregnancy, fetal development, childbirth, child development, parenting skills, nutrition, as well as tougher issues like healing from a past miscarriage, abortion, or sexual abuse.

These lessons are intended to meet the practical needs of Mom and or Dad while providing a wealth of information. Earn While You Learn also builds confidence and self-esteem; as you accomplish the goals you have set for yourself, you can't help but feel good! The knowledge you gain will help you deal with everyday issues like nutrition, child development, and discipline. If it is true that an informed parent is a confident parent, and a confident parent is what you want to be, then the Earn While You Learn program is must for you!

Earn While You Learn is also an excellent opportunity for increasing knowledge, personal growth and making new friends, while earning valuable 'Baby Bucks' that can help with the cost of meeing your child's everyday needs. The 'Baby Bucks' can also be used at Caring and Sharing to help with the needs of older children and household items that we do not offer.
